WINTER GOLFERS TEE IT UP IN SWIMSUITS FOR CHARITY
Bikini-Clad Duffers Shoot for Trip to Mexico at Innovative TopGolf Entertainment Complex
Wood Dale, IL (February 19, 2011)—With temperatures barely touching 40-degrees, barely clothed golfers took to the tee line at TopGolf to support a local children’s charity and shoot for a chance to win a trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The innovative entertainment complex attracted nearly 100 players to its first-ever “Swimsuits & Snow Boots Open.”
“The event really started out as ‘what-if’ joke, but our fans loved the concept so we just ran with it,” said Susan Murphy, Director of Marketing. “TopGolf is really like nothing else out there and I think crazy events like this are symbolic of the entertainment niche that we’ve taken over: interactive fun with friends that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
TopGolf combines traditional golf with cutting-edge technology and tee box food and beverage service. Microchips embedded into regulation golf balls provide automatic scoring based on distance and accuracy. Hitting bays (heated in winter, and with cool-water misters in summer) can accommodate up to 5 players.
The 1st annual “Swimsuits & Snow Boots Open” benefited One For The Kids, a local charity that supports various children’s nonprofit causes. Golfers brave enough to withstand the winter winds in their swimsuits competed to win a 3-night trip for two to the Riu Tequila Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, courtesy of Apple Vacations. A 2nd place prize was awarded by the Windy City Ski Club, who provided a local ski trip for two. 97.9FM The Loop personalities Pete McMurray and Lindsey “the Loop Rock Girl” co-hosted the event—swimsuits and all.
“This event is as much a farewell to winter as a celebration of spring,” said general manager, Brett Hintz. “Right now, we have hard core golfers out here to shake the rust off their swings. We have casual golfers and people who’ve never even swung a club out here to cure their cabin fever. It’s one of our busiest times of the year. Spring has definitely sprung for TopGolf.”
TopGolf is an innovative entertainment facility that uses computer microchips embedded in regulation golf balls to create an interactive game for both the hard-core and first-time golfers. The state-of-the-art software includes several computer-assisted golf games in which players get points by hitting targets. The TopGolf entertainment complex, open year round, includes a restaurant, bar, miniature golf course, custom club fittings and professional lessons.
