There’s a lot of casino (and would-be casino) news in Illinois right now. The ironies are enjoyable. “Casinos prey on the people who can lease afford it!” … “Newest Illinois casino to open targets upscale market!”… “More casinos will mean more gambling problems” … “The casino market is saturated, there are no more customers.”
We think it’s a lot of media hype. Really strong opinions by both sides when really the majority of people just don’t care. Nationwide polls consistently show that over 80% of people think visiting a casino is morally acceptable for themselves or others. And nowhere are there any polls that show casino expansion ranks anywhere in the top (even middle!) tier of priorities by voters who are much more concerned with (oh say) the national debt, local budget deficits, pension reform/protection, education funding, home values, the war, the other war, and that 3rd war too.
But alas, we’re still asking you to take the poll on gambling expansion in Illinois. Maybe if enough people say they support it, the media and our legislators can all move on to the next (read: a REAL) issue.
