Dereonte Ashford, 6, of the West Englewood community on the southwest side, was critically injured in a fire last March. Ashford, then 5, was rescued by a Chicago Firefighter. The young boy received burns over 80% of his body and has undergone numerous operations as he continues his recovery.
On Monday, April 30, Ashford was reunited with Chicago Firefighter Tom O’Connell, Engine 101, at the Goodlow School and thank the firefighter for saving his life.
